The Third 15,000-DWT LNG Dual-Fuel Chemical Tanker Delivered to Swedish Owner Terntank!

On April 22nd, the "TERN VIK", a 15,000-DWT LNG dual-fuel chemical tanker equipped with CSSC Ship Electric Technology Co.,Ltd. Hybrid Power System, was successfully delivered to Swedish shipowner Terntank for operation.

This vessel marks the third delivered to Terntank by CSSC Ship Electric Technology Co.,Ltd., in collaboration with Yangzhou DY Shipbuilding of CSSC CMHI. The first two vessels — “TERN ISLAND” and “TERN FORS” — have been operating smoothly for nearly four years, earning high recognition from both the shipowner and the shipyard.

The “TERN VIK” has a total length of 147 meters, a beam of 22 meters, a service speed of 14.5 knots, and a range of 6,600 nautical miles. It is classed by Bureau Veritas (BV).

CSSC SSES provided system design and core DC-link bus system manufacturing for the vessel’s hybrid power system. The system features:

  • 424 kWh battery bank

  • 1000 kW permanent magnet shaft generator

  • Variable frequency load drives

  • High-quality daily power supply

  • High-voltage shore power connection

  • Integrated EMS (Energy Management System)

The hybrid power system supports PTO (Power Take-Off) and PTH (Power Take-Home) functionalities, allowing for intelligent mode switching. Its EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) exceeds the IMO’s 2025 Phase 3 requirement by 40%, achieving excellent energy savings and environmental performance under multiple working conditions, while significantly enhancing vessel safety.

In 2020, CSSC Ship Electric Technology Co.,Ltd. began its first collaboration with Terntank, marking the first export of Chinese-manufactured equipment for such vessels and the company's first step onto the global stage. Over five years, seven vessels have been built and delivered in two repeat orders, further solidifying CSSC Ship Electric Technology Co.,Ltd.’s reputation among European clients.

From serving Chinese vessels to supporting global fleets, CSSC Ship Electric Technology Co.,Ltd. has now delivered over 610 hybrid power vessels, with 85 vessels serving international clients across Sweden, Norway, Germany, France, Indonesia, Singapore, Greece, the Netherlands, Thailand, and more.

As CSSC SSES continues to expand its global footprint, it remains committed to contributing China's strength to the world’s green shipping transformation.
